Carlton Cinema – 20 Carlton St, Toronto

Reel Indie Film Fest (RiFF) is honoured to co-present “Music Is Our Weapon”, one of the feature films at the Toronto Black Film Festival. The screening will take place at 7:00 PM on Friday February 17th at the Carlton Cinema in downtown Toronto. The full-length documentary chronicles Sarabi, a nine-piece band from Kenya who have risen from the most poverty-stricken region of Nairobi to win acclaim on major stages around the globe. Their music mixes all of the traditional elements of their native land and fuses them with a contemporary western sound while mixing them with lyrics that are both political and optimistic. It’s an amazing journey and one that every music lover will appreciate.

Synopsis: A film portraying the philosophy, history and fight-for-justice of the most enthralling band in Kenya, which continues to build a bridge between all different social classes with their music and inspires a population living in abject poverty. MUSIC IS OUR WEAPON is a metaphorical journey of a young vibrant band that never ceases to believe that music is a weapon of CHANGE.
